Urine test

The most established method for drug testing and the sample type that often provides the longest detection time for many substances. Used in both workplace and healthcare/treatment settings, with workplace testing following clear procedures for privacy and legally sound handling.

Urine test sampling

Why choose urine testing?

Urine testing is the most well-established method for drug testing and offers the longest detection time for the majority of substances. The method is scientifically validated and the results are legally sound.

Up to 30 days

Detection time (THC)

5 days

Results within 5 days with laboratory verification.

Advantages of urine testing

Urine analysis offers several unique advantages that make it the first choice for many organizations

Longest detection time

Urine tests have the longest detection time for most substances, making it possible to detect previous use.

Analyzes entire drug groups

Each test analyzes entire groups of substances, including metabolites and derivatives.

Well-established and proven method

Urine analysis is the most established method for drug testing with decades of scientific validation.

Cost-effective solution

Compared to other sample types, urine tests offer excellent value for money.

High accuracy

With modern LC-MS/MS analyses, very high precision and reliability in results is achieved.

What can urine tests detect?

Approximate detection times after last intake

Cannabis (THC)

3-30 days*

Amphetamine

2-4 days

Methamphetamine

2-4 days

Cocaine

2-4 days

Opiates

2-4 days

* Cannabis: 3-4 days with single use, up to 30 days with regular use

** Benzodiazepines: Varies significantly depending on type (short-acting vs long-acting)

How the sampling works

A simple and smooth process from sampling to results when the sample is sent to the laboratory.

1

Preparation

The sample collector prepares the materials and informs the person being tested about the procedure and privacy routines.

2

Sampling

Urine sample is provided according to established procedures. Temperature is checked to ensure sample authenticity.

3

Validation

The sample is validated for temperature, pH level and creatinine level to detect any manipulation.

4

Transport

The sample is sealed and sent to our accredited laboratory Synlab in Germany.

5

Laboratory analysis

The sample is analyzed using LC-MS/MS technology for highest precision. Over 60 substances can be detected.

6

MRO review

For positive results, these are reviewed by a Medical Review Officer (MRO physician) before reporting.

Integrity and manipulation protection

We take privacy matters very seriously and have developed procedures that protect both the individual's dignity and the test's reliability.

  • Temperature control – The sample is checked for correct temperature (32-38°C) to ensure authenticity
  • Creatinine control – Low levels may indicate that the sample has been diluted
  • pH control – Abnormal pH values may indicate attempted manipulation
  • Oxidation test – Detects if oxidizing agents have been added
  • Discreet procedures – Sampling is conducted with respect for the individual's privacy
Quality assurance

When is urine testing best suited?

Urine testing is ideal when you want to detect drug use over a longer period or need to analyze entire substance groups.

Planned controls

When the test occasion is scheduled in advance, e.g., at annual health checks.

Historical detection

When you want to detect drug use that occurred days or weeks earlier.

Treatment facilities

Regular follow-up of clients in treatment or rehabilitation.

Pre-employment screening

Part of the recruitment process for safety-sensitive positions.

Post-accident testing

Investigation after workplace accidents or incidents.

Cannabis detection

Longest detection time for cannabis compared to other sample types.
