Medical consultation

What is a medical evaluation?

Performed by licensed physicians or other healthcare professionals with specialized knowledge in the field.

  • Objective assessment: Independent medical expertise without personal relationships
  • Legal documentation: Documentation that holds up in employment law processes
  • Care recommendation: Concrete suggestions for measures and treatment

When is a medical evaluation needed?

There are several situations where a medical assessment may be necessary or recommended

Positive drug test

When a drug test shows a positive result, a medical assessment is often needed to determine if there are medical explanations or if it involves substance abuse.

Suspicion of abuse

When there is suspicion of alcohol or drug abuse, a medical evaluation can provide clarity on the situation and recommendations for continued handling.

Return to work

After treatment or rehabilitation, a medical assessment can determine if the employee is ready to return to work safely.

Pre-employment

For safety-sensitive positions, a medical assessment may be part of the hiring process to ensure the worker's suitability.

Regular follow-up

For employees with previous issues, regular medical follow-ups can ensure continued sobriety and work capacity.

Work-related accident

After a workplace accident, a medical evaluation can determine if drug or alcohol influence was a contributing factor.

How an evaluation works

Our process is structured, confidential, and follows medical and ethical guidelines.

1

Initial contact

The employer contacts us and describes the situation. We discuss the need for medical evaluation and plan the process.

2

Document review

We review existing documentation: drug test results, previous medical records (with consent), incident reports, and other relevant information.

3

Medical examination

A licensed physician meets with the employee for a comprehensive medical assessment. This includes medical history, physical examination, and any necessary tests.

4

Supplementary examinations

If needed, additional tests are performed: blood tests, urine tests, psychological assessments, or other relevant examinations.

5

Medical assessment

The physician analyzes all information and makes a professional medical assessment of the situation, including any diagnoses and risk assessment.

6

Statement and recommendations

A written medical statement is compiled with concrete recommendations for employer and employee. This may include treatment suggestions, work adaptations, or follow-up plans.

MRO physician services

A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a licensed physician with specialized knowledge in drug testing and toxicology. The MRO reviews and interprets all drug test results medically.

Review of test results

The MRO reviews all positive test results and determines if they are due to medication treatment or other legitimate medical causes.

Contact with employee

For positive findings, the MRO contacts the employee confidentially to gather medical information and explanations.

Legally sound statement

The MRO issues a medical statement that is legally binding and can be used in employment law processes.
